This website has been set up and is managed by the Parish Council to provide information about the council and the community of Rackheath.
The Parish Council has 11 councillors elected every 4 years by the residents of the village to represent their views. The last election was held on 7 May 2015 when we had 15 volunteers nominated for the 11 places, showing the nature of our vibrant and thriving community willing to give up their time for the good of the village. Membership has changed since then as individuals have left the Council due to changes in their personal circumstances and we currently have a vacancy at the moment and would interested in hearing from prospective new members.
The Parish Council holds regular public meetings usually on the third Monday of each month, (except in August), and the public are welcome to attend and speak during public participation. Agendas and minutes are posted on the website, social media and the 3 noticeboards in the village. Paper copies are also available from the Clerk.
Our responsibilities include the management of the pavilion, bowling green, multi-play surface and football pitches at Stracey Playing Field, the Jubilee Park and the USAF War Memorial. We also look after the verge and grass cutting, village sign, some of the dog and litter bins, bus shelters and public seating.
The Parish Council is consulted on planning applications and developments in the village and other changes to the infrastructure in and around the village. In May 2015 the Council agreed to develop a Neighbourhood Plan for Rackheath and set up a Steering Group comprising of councillors and residents to develop the plan. Rackheath Neighbourhood Plan was completed following extensive public consultation and was formally adopted following a referendum in July 2017.
Our Councillors are actively involved in the community talking to residents, posting on Facebook and organising events such as Rackheath Live and a Fireworks Display. Members make decisions about public open spaces and facilities on behalf of residents and need to hear from you to make sure we are getting it right. The minutes of meetings, future plans are other information are provided on this website but if there is anything you can’t find, please ask the Clerk or Parish Councillors.
